The Burning Bush

The desert air was heavy with heat, shimmering like waves above the sunbaked sand.

Moses had seen countless bushes scattered across the barren landscape, twisted and dry—silent reminders of life's struggle against an unforgiving wilderness.

But today, something caught his eye—a bush aflame, crackling with radiant intensity. Yet, strangely, no smoke rose, and no leaves curled into ash.

The bush remained whole, untouched, and vibrant despite being wrapped in the very heart of a blazing fire.

Curiosity turned quickly to wonder, wonder to awe, and awe to a reverent fear as Moses cautiously approached.

What kind of flame burns without destroying?

It was beautiful yet terrifying, inviting yet dangerous. A paradox unfolding before his eyes.

It was The Lord of heaven and earth.

This was no ordinary fire. This was a visible representation of the very presence of God—a consuming fire that mysteriously refused to consume.

Herein lies a profound truth about intimacy with the Lord.

God, the almighty creator, powerful enough to form galaxies with mere words, who could justly consume the world in righteous wrath, instead chooses to withhold His judgment. He relents from destroying fragile, sinful humanity.

Instead of devastation, He chooses nearness.

In "The Chronicles of Narnia," there's a powerful moment when Susan cautiously asks Mr. Beaver about Aslan the Lion: "Is he safe?" The Beaver’s response echoes throughout the story and into our hearts: "Safe? Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good."

That's our God. Scripture makes it clear—He isn't safe.

Hebrews 12:29 bluntly states, "Our God is a consuming fire."

He is infinitely holy, just, and powerful. Yet, profoundly, He is good. His compassion is gentle, His kindness boundless, His patience immense.

THE BURNING BUSH COME TO LIFE?
We often wonder what it would look like to see what Moses saw. Perhaps AI can give us just a tiny glimpse into what it may have been like! Click

What does this mean for us? It means that, like Moses, we should approach God with awe and reverence.

There’s a holy tension between fear and fascination when we recognize who He truly is.

But there's also breathtaking grace here. Through Jesus, God has extended unimaginable mercy.

Christ stood between us and the consuming fire, taking upon Himself what we deserved.

Today, we find ourselves like that bush—surrounded by the fire of God's presence yet preserved by grace.

The flames remind us of His holiness and power, urging us toward reverent awe.

Yet the unburned branches speak to us of His mercy and intimacy, calling us into a relationship that's as close as it is powerful.

May we always remember: our God is not safe, but He is immeasurably good.

We can boldly draw near, unconsumed and unharmed, because Christ has made it possible for us to stand in the holy fire.
